Okay, I know I’m late. Every geek and their mother has blogged about the release date announcement. But I don’t care! (insert excited über-nerd yell here…) This is so cool! Today, Blizzard posted on their site the official release date for the third expansion of their popular MMORPG. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will be in stores December 7th for both Windows and Mac computers.
The game will have a suggested retail price of $39.99 but an exclusive collectors edition will be sold on at stores for $79.99 which will also include some special content. Blizzard had this quote on their site.
“Cataclysm includes the best content we’ve ever created for World of Warcraft. It’s not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With the help of our beta testers, we’re putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months.”
Though I am really excited about the expansion I was a little bummed out that there wasn’t a new animation (in the style of Wrath of the Lich King and previous Blizzard cinematic trailers) to go along with the announcement. I’m not sure how it works with the trailers, if they only come out with the game release or sometime prior, but I do enjoy the animation and hope to see what they come up with for Cataclysm.
