Star Tours Returns

Way back in 1987, Star Tours opened in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland and became the only reason for Chudd and I to ever want to go to the park. We really could have given a shit less about Tom Sawyer’s Island, People Movers, or an electric parade (admittedly, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and Space Mountain were kind of cool). From our perspective, Star Tours felt like getting a chance to walk into a small piece of the Star Wars universe. Unfortunately I haven’t been to the park in over 15 years, and this last year Disney shut it down for an update. So even though I haven’t had the opportunity to go these last few years, it’s something I’m going to miss.

Good news though, Star Tours opens May 20th with all new adventures and in 3D (okay, I could also give a shit less about the 3D…)! This time the Star Speeder 1000 will be piloted by C-3P0 and instead of just one trip to Endor the ride will feature several new “destinations”,

Glide among the trees with Wookiees on Kashyyyk, kick up some desert sand in a podrace on Tatooine, dive into the lakes of Naboo, weave through the bustling city-planet of Coruscant, blast through the blizzards of Hoth or even help attack the heavily defended Death Star!

I’m actually kind of excited for this. yeah it’ll be a bitch to scrape together about $80.00 for a ticket (WTF Disney! It was like 25 bucks when I was a kid and that was still outrageous **insert old man grumbling as I hitch up my pants**), but I’m a Star Wars nerd, so I’ll probably end up checking it out. Take a look at the promotion video below, or visit the Star Tours Web page for more information. Cool thing about the video… all original trilogy characters.

Enjoy.

Yeah, this is cool and all…

…But, dammit, I’m still singing the Portal II end song. *sigh*
