I’m sorry to say, I’ve haven’t had the chance to play either Portal, or Portal 2, though I am very curious to. Mostly I’m curious just from the hype that I see around it, but also from what I’ve seen on the commercials, and Youtube videos, it looks like a very interesting game to play. Also, I really like the two songs Jonathan Coulton came up with for the ending credits. I’m not sure why that factors into my curiosity… just does… Anyhow, I came across this little lady’s cover of the song last night while browsing my reader (via ToplessRobot.com). She’s got a very pleasant voice to listen to. Her name is Laura Shigihara (or Supershigi on Youtube), and, from what I read on her profile, she’s a video game composer (nice!). Says she created the sound track for “Plants vs. Zombies,” another game I haven’t had the chance to play, but here’s what she had to say about this video:
You can download the song here:
I didn’t feel right about doing a “Want You Gone” cover until I’d actually played through Portal 2 and heard the song in context… Well, we finally beat the game this weekend and I think I love GLaDOS even more now than I did before^^ I was so inspired by the Turret Opera and ending credits theme that immediately afterwards, I went to arrange and record this. Anyways, I hope you enjoy it! And in case you’re wondering, yes I’m doing all the vocals.
With that voice, she definitely picked the right career. I have to say though it’s a little too… nice (?)… I’m not sure what’s the right word to use here. Let me put it this way: when I listened to this last night, at the same time I went back to vectoring a freelance project I’d picked up over the weekend. The sound of her voice kept making me nod off. Couldn’t really keep going after that, so I just went to bed.
