Tomorrow at SDCC

Early tomorrow morning Trog and I set out for Comic-Con. I wish I could say I was more excited about going this year, but I think my anxieties are getting the better of me. I quit my job almost two months ago, and it’s been kind of a struggle since. Pulling in an income from freelance work and my microstock account has been a real challenge… one that I’m not really succeeding in. Oh, also I turn 35 at the end of the month, so that’s not helping me feel better either.

If anything, I’m hoping the next four days will serve as a much needed distraction and allow me to relax enough to feel a little more confident again. Maybe then I can feel more excited about looking for a job, or dealing with clients, or trying to boost my microstock account. Honestly, I’m hoping to find some inspiration as well. Hopefully I’ll see or hear something that will spark and idea and help get me out of the mess I’m in. Hopefully a strong enough idea that could benefit my family and friends as well. I guess I’ll just have to keep my eyes and ears open, and we’ll see.

Anyhow, we’re leaving pretty early in the morning to take the coaster down. I want to avoid driving in every way possible. Unfortunately that means a bit of walk from our place to the station, but hey, one look at my gut and you’ll see I could use the exercise. I’m doing a post now because… well for one thing I’m too anxious to sleep (seems to be a habit these days), but also because I won’t have time to do one in the morning. I’ll do my best to report what we saw and did tomorrow evening… or I’ll just make Trog do it.

As far as tomorrow, I do have an idea of what I want to see and wait in line for. The problem is there’s just too much, and a lot of the stuff I’d like to see either overlaps, or is scheduled right after each other in different areas of the convention. So it’s doubtful I’d be able to run from one thing to the next and make it in time. Well, here’s what I’d like to see, or I’m going to try to anyhow:

First, we get our badges.

First you get the badges, then you get the ladies...

After that, I bought us tickets for a Kevin Smith Q&A at a bar called Jolt’n Joe’s. I was listening to the Nerdist Podcast today, and it had… Wazzhizname (?)… from Chuck on it. Zack Something… I think… anyhow, he was talking about something called Nerd HQ, so I thought we’d check it out. I’m kind of a Kevin Smith fan anyhow. I like most of his films… or at least enough to count as a fan… and I listen to Smodcast when I get a chance… We’ll see how it goes.

Then I’m off to get in line for Ballroom 20. This should be around 12:00 or so, but what I want to see isn’t until 3:00 and that’s the Game of Thrones Q&A. I just want to make sure I get in to see it since I’m really into the books right now.

Game of Thrones

There’s an Archer screening right after that at 4:00 at the Indigo Ballroom over at the Hilton Bayfront I’d really like to go to, but I doubt that I’ll make it over there in time. Although I’m a huge fan of the cartoon, and I’ve had a major nerd crush on Aisha Tyler since I saw her in Balls of Fury, 4:00 is when I can check into my hotel room, and by then I’ll probably be wanting to rest for a bit and catch a shower.

There are a couple things from 5:oo to 6:00 that I’d like to see, like a Beavis & Butthead panel, and a panel on figure drawing (’cause you know I like to draw nekkid ladies), I’ll probably pass those up for the Wilfred Screening in Room 6A at 6:15 to 7:30. That show fucking rocks! If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out.

Again, here’s a problem with overlap for something I’d really like to see, from 7:00 to 8:00 Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant will be hosting a panel on Writing Movies for Fun and Profit. I’m a big fan of Reno 911, and these guys also had something to do with Balls of Fury, so I’d like to sit in on this one. I don’t know dick about screen writing, and I’m not sure if I’d ever have the confidence to try it, but you never know. Might learn something there.

There’s also a Robotech panel going on at the same time. DAMMIT! I’m also a huge Robotech fan… Why do they stack all the really cool shit on Thursday night?

Again, same time, there’s a Penn & Teller panel… FUCK!

From 8:00 to 9:00 there a panel on H.P. Lovecraft in comics and film panel that looks interesting. Maybe I can make it do that one.

The last thing on Thursday night that I really would like to see are the Star Wars Fan Movie Awards back in Ballroom 2o. I went to one of these two years ago and thought it was pretty cool, so I’d like to see’em again. Those start at… 8:30… which overlaps the H.P. Lovecraft panel… Who the fuck scheduled this stuff??? “Hey, here’s a good idea! Lets stack all the cool shit together! Make fans run around like chickens with their heads lopped off!” Fucking cockstains… sorry, I’m a little disgruntled now.

Anyways… for the few (if any) readers who actually take time to view our ramblings, and that will also be attending the con, I’ll be wearing an Atomic Moo shirt tomorrow. So if you happen to spot either me or Trog there, don’t be afraid to walk up and say “Moo!”
