Hey El Moochadors… I’ve been working all day on an illustration, and just finished it a few minutes ago, so I really haven’t had time for a post today. I thought I would take a look on the internet and see what’s going on tonight when I came across this (above) on GeekDad. Looks like DC Comics is going with a new logo.
Sorry DC, but your new logo looks like shit. Don’t use it. Not when you already have a very strong logo that is easily recognizable, simple yet very dynamic, easier to read, and reflects back on former logos you once had (a sense of history your readers can identify with).
This new one doesn’t invoke any sort of feeling… it’s pretty boring. It’s extremely boring! For a comic book company I can’t believe you would want to go with a logo that looks so banal and uninteresting as that above. At best It looks like a sticker is being peeled back (I’m guessing your designers were going for a page turning?), but the “D” doesn’t really read as a “D” at that point. You need the “DC” part below to understand it. Also, If it didn’t have the “Comics” line underneath I wouldn’t have any idea what sort of company this logo is for.
Anyhow, I know I’m a graphic designer still trying to get his career off the ground, but take my advice and stick with what you got. Toss this new concept into the recycle bin.
