Evening Moo: Barlowe’s Guide to Fantasy—Thanks Neko!

Barlowe's Guide to Fantasy

Neko sent us a box of books a few days ago, so I just wanted to say thanks to him for that. One that he threw in that immediately caught my attention was this book called “Barlowe’s Guide to Fantasy.” It’s a bunch of character illustrations by Wayne Douglas Barlowe, and it’s been out a while now—since 1996. Still, I’ve really enjoyed flipping through the pages and checking out his work. Thanks again Neko!

  1. What’s old is new again. The original Barlowe’s Guide to Extraterrestrials dates from1979, but there was a reprint. I’ve only ever seen one copy of Guide to Fantasy, and I’ve only read a few of the novels that the monsters are drawn from.

  2. I was kind of curious to see how he would interpret one of H.P. Lovecraft’s monsters, but the only one he had in there was from a story I haven’t really been that interested to read (The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath). I’ll have to look up his other books.

  3. Guide to Extraterrestrials has an Old One.
