Hey El Moochadores! Real quick, I just wanted to share with all of you something I came across on Kickstarter.com. Currently Five high school kids are doing everything they can to make a BSG Viper flight simulator for a project entry into Maker Faire. According to their Kickstarter page:
Our Maker Faire project for 2012 is “The Viper” — a motion controlled flight simulator inspired by the ship of the same name from the hit TV Series “Battlestar Galactica”. Visit our project website to find out more and to follow our progress: the-viper.org.
The basic idea is to mount the fuselage of a small plane (a Piper PA-28) on a motion control platform that is capable of 360 degree rotation on both the pitch and roll axes. The video above shows the basic design we’re shooting for. This design allows for considerably more motion around the pitch axis than commercial entertainment systems, such as those found at the Smithsonian Air and Space museum.
So, (and this is what I take away from what I read and saw) …this is what happens when you have a bunch a kids who’s parents actually give a shit about them and encourage their creativity. Unlike my parents who, honest truth, never called me by the right name, even once. Granted, I was the last of eight kids, but c’mon! A fucking Viper!? Watch the video below and you’ll see one of the kids is in the eighth fucking grade! Okay, okay… I’m a little jealous. It passed. I’m cool now. Good luck to this team of creative teenagers and after checking out the video go to their Kickstarter page and toss them some coin.
