Awakening: The Art of Halo 4
About a decade ago, Chudd and I were in college and, like most students in the early 2000’s, we spent more time playing the original Halo than going to any actual classes. I should point out that I am not a hardcore gamer and “real” gamers might point to a dozen better contemporary games. However, back then, I was astonished by Halo’s amazing graphics and story line and it was the best damn thing I had played since Duck Hunt. Plus, it allowed me to blow up my roommates with a rocket launcher and be a bastard with the sniper rifle! I got good at Halo. So good, in fact, that it’s the only video game I’ve actually beaten our fellow El Moochadore, Buttery Wholesomeness, at! Ha!
Well, Halo is back in my life now, and so is the urge to plunk down the dough on a new 360, all because of Paul Davies’s new book; Awakening: The Art of Halo 4! Here’s a quick Synopsis:
Awakening: The Art of Halo 4 is a very special collection of concept art, sketches, and artists’ commentary that highlights the imagination and creative vision of 343 Industries. With a unique behind-the-scenes view of the creation of new worlds, new enemies, and new heroes, Awakening: The Art of Halo 4® reveals every spectacular element of the game.
Okay, that being said; I loved this book! Published by Titan Books; Awakening: the art of Halo 4 is beautiful and engaging while also providing a sneak peek at the games characters, villains, ships, and weapons. It’s over a 190 pages of unique art that shows the high level of detail that went into planning the fourth sequel of one of the world’s best first person shooters! Though I feel Awakening would be a good gift for gamers and fans of the Halo franchise, I also think this would make a great gift for artists and aspiring game designers. I think creatives will get lost in the layers of detail that went in to creating environments, ships, and characters of Halo 4.
