Robocop cover

Okay… I’ll just get into this. Last Friday night I picked up RoboCop Last Stand #1 of 8, published by Boom Studios. I did pick up some other issues, but honestly, they’re not worth mentioning… Except for Deadpool! Deadpool fucking rocks, but I’ll get into that later. Here’s a brief synopsis that I found on their site for this issue:

Writer(s): Frank Miller, Steven Grant
Artist(s): Declan Shalvey, Korkut Öztekin

Frank Miller’s incredible screenplay has been brought to life in this hard-hitting Steven Grant (2 GUNS, PUNISHER: CIRCLE OF BLOOD) penned adaptation. With all the brains, guts, and bullets that made the first film an instant classic, this is a comic event not to miss.

The police force has disbanded. The people of Detroit have been evicted from their homes. ED-209’s and OCP officers run the streets. With OCP’s vision for Delta City well underway, Robocop may be his city’s last hope. This is Robocop’s last stand, as it was always intended to be.

It was violent and full of action… and it was fun to see a fucked up Murphy running around kicking ass (like in the first Robocop film). The cover art looked great, which got me to pick up the book in the first place. Interior art was a little sloppy, but not so bad you couldn’t tell what was happening. Still, I kind of felt like you’re in the middle of something, with very little backstory to go off of. Maybe this is a continuation from another story? Who’s the Mary Lacasse character? Why were the cops fired? What happened in the church at the beginning with the dead priest and nun? Was there more to that, or was it just a frame up that the news was reporting? How did RoboCop get so damaged? Why is he on the run and hiding? What bug crawled up his tin can to get him to go rouge?

I guess one problem I have with this book is a problem I’ve been having with most books since trying to get back into reading comics. I feel like I’m being dropped into the middle of a story, even when it’s a first issue, and have no idea what the hell is going on. Maybe I don’t read enough comics… I don’t know. Not sure If I’ll keep going with this one. It’s not that I felt it was horrible, or that I wasted my money, it just didn’t really entice me enough to want to read more. I guess I’ll see what else Boom has to offer.

On the other hand, READ DEADPOOL!

DeadPool Kills DeadPool #2

I know I reviewed a Deadpool comic last week, but this one I got the other night was the tits (as the kids say… kids are saying that, right?). I picked up Marvel’s Deadpool Kills Deadpool issue #2, along with the other issues on Friday, and it actually got me to laugh out loud a couple times. That’s something I never do. No matter how funny something is. I’m too self-conscience about laughing… I really don’t want to spoil it, mostly I just wanted to give it a quick shout out. Still, from this series I’m hoping there’s two characters that will remain in regular Deadpool continuity: Lady Deadpool and Pandapool.

Well, that’s all I have for now. Better post this before Trog goes bat-shit nuts that’s it’s almost five and nothing has been posted yet today. Later!
