I was able to go to the comic shop and grab a some issues to read this weekend. I think I made some decent choices. So here are three issues that I picked up that I really enjoyed.

The Superior Foes of Spider-Man

The Superior Foes of Spider-Man

I was genuinely surprised by how good this one was. The artwork was excellent (Done by Steve Lieber), it had a great sense of humor and an interesting story (thanks to Nick Spencer). It’s Boomerang (so both DC and Marvel have Boomerang guys?) assembling his sinister six (Shocker, Overdrive, Speed Demon, and Beetle) to take down Spider-Man. I liked this one because it’s basically a story of “Morts-of-the-month” (Wizard reference if you didn’t get it) banding together. I’m definitely looking forward to the next issue.

Deadpool #15: The Good The Bad and the Ugly

Deadpool #15: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Another Marvel one for you, but hey, it’s Deadpool. Deadpool is just fucking awesome (thanks to Posehn and Duggan), and so was this last issue. He’s still got agent Preston in his head, and he’s being hunted by a group that keeps stealing his organs. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but it’s got Wolverine and Captain America in it, a shit load of action, and a decent twist at the end.

IDW’s Hundred Penny Press: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1

Hundred-Penny-Press--TMNT

I really really really liked this one. Why? Because it was only a buck! Hey, I’m on a budget… Sure it was a reprint of a first issue, but since I never read that issue anyhow, who gives a shit? It’s part of IDW’s Hundred Penny Press, where they reprint first issues for only a buck. Let’s hope they keep doing that, and that a trend starts to follow (fucking comics are to expensive!). Anyhow, the story wasn’t bad, but it did do that thing I’ve been complaining about for awhile now: dropping you into a story with little to no backstory to go off of. Like who is the half-mutant cat guy in the beginning (Old Hob)? Why is he fighting the Turtles? What’s wrong with Raphael and why isn’t he with the other Turtles? April O’neal is a Scientist now, and not a Journalist? And the Turtles are only eighteen months old? It’s worth picking up for a buck, but it left me with questions.

Well, that’s all I got for this week. Hopefully I’ll have enough left over from paying rent I’ll be able to get more next week. Later!
