Garfiel Minus Garfield!

I think it’s kind of appropriate that I’m posting this on Monday, but all the same: Please check out Garfield Minus Garfield! Created by Dan Walsh, and (of course) Jim Davis (they are his cartoons after all, even with the editing…). This is a great take on the classic comic strip but spun in a way to show the life of a sad, middle aged man, who doesn’t own a cat. Check out the synopsis:

Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.

The sad thing is that when you take Garfield away from Jon you pretty much get my life. Damn. I’m gonna go buy a cat. Anyways, Garfield Minus Garfield (the book) can be purchased at or Barnes & Nobles, but also hit the link above to see daily cartoons posted. I’ve posted a few sample strips below along with a very funny video from The Pete Holmes Show called Realistic Garfield. The animation is not related to the comic strip, I just thought it was funny and along the same vibe.

Enjoy the rest of your Monday!

  1. I like it. Reminds me of three-panel Peanuts, which leaves off the punchline so you just get kids and a dog with suburban malaise.

So in this version, who sends Nermal to Abu Dhabi?
