An Atomic Moo Book Review of the New Offical Companion Book to the Showtime Series
Fans of the Showtime hit original series, Penny Dreadful now have a comprehensive new volume to sate all their Victorian era monster needs. Published by Titan Books (2015), the Art and Making of Penny Dreadful is a beautifully assembled collection of season one’s characters, production notes, behind the scenes photos, and history. Yeah, there’s quiet a lot of actual history used by the series, and expertly explained in this volume. The new companion is written by Sharon Gosling and focuses on show creator John Logan’s vision, and execution, of the series. What I really enjoyed about this companion is that it isn’t just a big picture book. Though there are tons of pictures; The companion provides excellent details on the shows production methods and the hurdles they had to jump to get the first season produced. Also, I have to give a lot of credit to the books designer. The page lay outs, and cover work, of this volume are very well done in a style that matches the look and feel of the show.
I’ve posted the official synopsis below, along with a few scans of some of the inside pages. these are kind of low quality scans from home computer, but they should at least give potential readers an idea of what’s inside. Still, probably better to go to a bookstore and see the real deal.
the Art and Making of Penny Dreadful is available now in all major bookstores, or you can get your copy online at titanbooks.com
