Cool Stuff in the Lord of the Rings Appendices

Okay El Moochadores, Lately I’ve been trying to get a daily drawing (sketch) done everyday, and so far so good. Well, the art kind of sucks, but showing up is half the battle. Anyways, it’s really important to me to not have too many distractions around while sketching so a lot of times I’ll put on a little trip hop music, or an old movie I’ve seen a hundred times, just to have some familiar noise in the background. Yesterday, I was going to watch LOTR Fellowship of the Ring, but I ended up watching the documentaries in the extended DVD appendices… Which totally distracted me from sketching. I had forgotten just how well done these documentaries were and the depth of information on making these films. Fortunately the Youtube has these appendices in parts and I found the one I enjoyed most (below) for today’s post. This doc explores the set creation, concept art, and costume making behind the first film in the trilogy. Atomic Moo worthy stuff even if it is over a decade old now. But hey, we like old stuff here too! We kind of have to.

Enjoy!

  1. After the first time, I only watched the movies with the audio commentaries or the making-of appendices. Those I watched repeatedly for years.
