The Story Behind DMC – Darryl Makes Comics

Distractotron’s Interview with Darryl McDaniels of Run-DMC

Hello again El Moochadores! Distractotron’s video of this post really kind of helped. I’ve been having a very tough time managing my personal life and my creative life (career?) and things have been kind of… dark lately. There are a lot of obstacles (many of which I think I make my self) to getting stuff done, and it is hard for a guy like me to maintain focus. Not to mention the clinical depression and constant fear that just clings to everything I do. However, there’s always this thing of “just do it anyways” that keeps me (and Chudd) creating art, or comic strips, or even (someday) a comic book. Watching DMC talk about making comic books doesn’t fix anything for me – not by a damn site- but there’s a moment at the end where he talks about the passions we’ve had since kids and not letting them die. I think he’s right that a lot of comic books and comic art are a part of me and it’s very important to bring that stuff out. I really hope DMC is successful at comics as he was at music, and I hope videos like this help the creatives out there to focus just a little more on the stuff that is important in life. Like a comic stirp about foul mouthed mice, or a comic book about a fire breathing super cow. Very important.

So, enjoy the video. It was filmed at New York Comic Con 2017, and hit the link above to see s’more really great videos from Distractotron. Guys who’re doing it right. You can also go check out DMC’s comics at the official Darrel Makes Comics website. Now I have to go draw some mice, then figure out how the hell I’m going to pay the rent.

Cheers.

Thank You Comic Fest 2017!

Okay El Moochadores, it’s now been a week since San Diego Comic Fest 2017, and it was a pretty damn good con! I wanted to post about the convention sooner, but I had a busy work week, and then I got slammed by the con crud! I’m still a big snotty mess. Anywhat, we want to thank the convention organizers and all the attedees for an excellent con experience. Comic Fest was our sixth convention, and first con of 2017, and also a strong reminder of how awesome it feels to make art and have people actually buy it! Also, frigg’n great job on the Kirby Cafe. This years Comic Fest celebrated Kirby’s 100th birthday by decking out a bar/lounge with tons of Kirby art and covers! This was a cool con and we’re looking forward to next years convention, and hopefully a stronger portfolio of work.

Also, thank you very much to all those who signed up for our e-mail list. We’ll keep you updated with new con appearances, new illustration work, and anything else related to Atomic Moo and Murray Brothers Creative!

Anyways, I had to stay at the booth for most of the time were at the con, but here are some photos I pulled from the vastness of the internet to show some of the con happenings. Once again, not our images, but if you do a simple google search for San Diego Comic Fest, you can see where I pulled ’em from.

Cheers!

Magfest 2017

Cosplay, Gaming and Music from Beatdown Boogie!

We’re back! That’s right El Moochadores, we (the intrepid Brothers Moo) have survived yet another swirling storm of disaster and chaos (aka: our lives) and are now (some how) wiser, better looking, and ready to blog. So, let us celebrate this triumphant return by getting back to some cool geek creativity.

Recently Distractotron visited MAGfest 2017 and they brought back a whole bunch of cool photos and video work. MAGfest (Music and Gaming) is a “four day-long event dedicated to the appreciation of video game music, gaming of all types, and the gaming community.” According to the website the event runs 24 hours a day (wtf SDCC? get it together!) and offers “consoles, arcades, tabletop, LAN, live video game cover bands, chiptunes, vendors, guest.” Cool, maybe Atomic Moo and the Murray Brothers Creative can attend a future MAGfest. We’re cool too, right?

Anyways, check out the videos (parts one and two) below along with a smattering of images taken from the Distractotron Facebook page.

Enjoy!

NYCC 2016 Coverage from Beat Down Boogie!

Spotlight Videos One and Two!

We’re west coast guys and, for the most part, content with our lives here in sunny, beautiful, San Diego. However, we’re also very poor and unable to attend some of the amazing comic book conventions happening around the world. So, we rely on the stunning photo and video work of the fine people at Beat Down Boogie to provide excellent coverage of events like NYCC 2016. Just seeing all the beautiful cosplay and fun events shot in slow motion and paired with good tunes fills me… aww, who am I kidding. These guys are good at something and they get to travel around the world doing it and that feels me with a jealous rage! I’m terrible at everything and it gets me no where! Fuck’n life. So anyways; for what ever reason, check out the videos below to either enjoy them or seethe with the frustrating jealousy.

Enjoy.

Lords Of The Cosmos Issue #1 Kickstarter Update!

Cover

Hello El Moochadores! The other day I recorded an conversation/interview with Ugli Studio creator Jason Lenox for and upcoming Moocast, but my time is incredible short these days, so I wanted to post about some of the news and announcements we discussed while I continue to work on the latest episode (coming soon). A lot is going on with Lenox and his comic, Lords of the Cosmos. A few weeks ago I posted about the LotC comic’s Kickstarter and now it has hit it’s goal! However, there is still time (about 8 days as of this post) to contribute and get in on some really cool rewards.lords-of-the-cosmos-kickstarter-promo-image-3-1 One of which includes a custom sculpture of one of the LotC characters by artist Erich Adie. I kind of feel bad, because when I posted about this a couple of weeks ago, I forgot the sculptures which, in or out of their packages, look frigg’n amazing! Check out some images below!

Nittany Con!

Also, Lenox is now running his own convention! Nittany Con is happening this month on September 25th at State College (which, I think is a town), Pennsylvania. Tickets are only $5.00 and kids 5 and under are free. Way cool! Lenox will be there along with a bunch of other comic creators to show off their creative works! Hit the link above for more information about guests and events, but if you’re in the area, swing on in and support a con that’s actually about comic books!

I’ve posted the promo video for the LotC Kickstarter below along with a couple of sample images, and images of the custom sculpts, pulled from the KS page. Check it out and support a cool indie comic project! Also, check back sometime this week for Atomic Moocast #121, where we’ll have our discussion with Lenox and all the cool happenings!

Enjoy!

Some Photos from an Awesome Event!

Okay El Moochadores, my main computer is bugging out so I’m having to use an old laptop to write this post, but we’re back from Salt Lake Comic Con 2016 and it was frigg’n awesome! Who’d have thunk that those mountain dwelling, snow humpers could’ve put together such a cool comic book convention?IMG_0682 The con offered a huge exhibit hall, an excellent artist alley (made all the better by your favorite brothers moo), a huge celebrity turn out (including The Fonze!), and lots of panels, games, and other fun stuff! Also, cosplay! Tons of cosplay! Seriously! Those mormons can sew! …or tape, staple, and weld. Anyways, we even tried out some new stuff at this con. For the first time Jason and I started to draw mini-sketchesIMG_0665 and commissions from our booth. Check out some of the images below, and I gotta say I’m really looking forward to next year! Well, I’m not looking forward to telling my mom I’m getting a hotel next year. Our mom lives up in SLC and we spent the last week camping out on her living room floor. My back hurts really bad now. So, I need to come up with a really nice way to tell my elderly mother that I don’t want to stay with her next year – Giant breakfast and folded clothes be damned! However, we did save a ton of money, and mom did make Magic Bars… damn.

Enjoy!

Anyways, I always kind of dug Salt Lake City and it’ll be a good little road trip to what I’m hoping is a great comic book con!

Anyways, I’ll post more information as the con draws near. Also, I should remind you all that this weekend we’ll be at Nerd Con in Escondido, Ca. So… lot of chances to see your favorite brothers moo! Check out a few samples of our vector art below!
