Jack Kirby: Story Teller

Full Documentary

Hey El Moochadores! It’s my day off (very well deserved) and during my hour of practice drawing I watched (well, listened to…) this pretty rad documentary about comic book legend, Jack Kirby. Lately, I’ve been trying to do more “Kirby Krackle” stuff in my doodles, and so I’ve developed an interest in learning more about Kirby and all he’s done for comic books. Jack Kirby was the legendary creator of such comics as Captain America and the Fantastic Four, and this Documentary features commentary by the likes of Stan Lee, Jim Lee, Neal Adams, and many more. I really dug this, and I may go back and give it another watch later tonight. The video was posted to the Youtube way back in 2016 by Kirby Continuum. Click the link for more info on the video and fun Kirby related videos.

Enjoy!

HOW TO DEFEAT ARTBLOCK

Rant and advice from Rodgon the Artist!

I’m pretty sure the universe is working against me. I wanted to post this video last night, but my hard drive crashed (she will be missed), and this morning a WordPress plugin issue kept me out of Atomic Moo for a bit. Oh, and I threw my back out. Not really a technical issue, but it really hurts to blog with a bad back.

Anyways… before I jump into a morning of Atomic Tails work (#25 is almost done!), I wanted to post this video from Rodgon the Artist. He has a ton of youtube videos teaching slobs like me how to cartoon and illustrate, and I’ve become a really big fan of his work. I wanted to post this video (Originally published last November), because art block is a huge problem for me. I very much want to illustrate and work on my webcomics, but even when I have the time to work in my sketch book, or finish a comic, I some how just piss the time away. In this video, Rodgon goes over three ways to beat your own artist block.

Real quick I’m going to try and paraphrase the three top points of the video, which are:

1. Build a huge mental library of stuff you can draw from memory. Which is something I’m trying now. For Atomic Tails I spend a lot of time practicing drawing Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry characters, ref sheets, and even just pausing the cartoons. It’s not to rip off the characters, but to learn how they were made and maybe make something of my own. There’s even a book I’m reading right now by Austing Kleon called Steal Like an Artist that covers this area a bit.
2. Create a creative circle. Not where I’m at my strongest, but having created a website like Atomic Moo and meeting tons of great creatives through the Moocast and cons, I really do know how important this is. Cuttently; outside of a few people on the internet I don’t really have a lot of people I go to for inspiration, motivation, or advice. So, this is something I’m going to start working on.
3. Beat your depression. Both Chud and I have had huge issues with self-esteem and depression, and I get the value of dealing with your issues in a healthy way. However, that may be.

Okay, so check out the video below while I go and draw some cartoon mice. Hopefully I’ll have a comic to post by the end of the day. To see more of Rodgon’s illustration work checkout his website at Rodgon.com

Cheers.

Mewshroom the Fungapuss!

New Kickstarter for a cute cat mushroom plush toy from Stitchmind!

Okay El Moochadores, Stitchmind, the creative talent that brought us The Mighty Cockblock, has a just launched a Kickstarter for a new plush toy: Mewshrooms the Fungapuss! Which is awesome and probably the best thing I could post about right now. I’m not kidding, I love these cuddly puns this guy comes up with.Image_3

Anyways, according to the kickstarter page, each plush doll is six inches tall and though the main character is in red, other variant color fungapusses (also my new favorite word) will come in different colors. Stitchmind is an incredibly talented graphic, and character, designer. I think these new plush dolls show off his diversity to work in several mediums and I hope our readers get out there and support this KS.

The kickstarter is just a couple of days old now, so there’s still plenty of time to contribute. Click the link above to learn more about the project and rewards for contributing. I posted the promotional video below along with a couple of sample images along with the Mewshrooms short bio. Best wishes to Stitchmind and I hope to pass a booth full of Mewshrooms at the next design con or sol. Cal con I attend!

Cheers!

Mewshrooms are magical fairy creatures that have come to our world out of curiosity. They are playful and happy creatures that hold within them fascinating yet eerie mystic powers. Drawn to humans and life, they will bless anyone who pampers and spoils them with luck, joy, and prosperity. However while their appearance may seem disarming do not be fooled! The Fungapuss posses both the predatory ferocity of the majestic cat as well as the decomposing poisons of the cunning mushroom. Woe to those that dare to treat the Mewshrooms with disrespect.

No one is certain for sure where the Mewshrooms came from or what they are truly capable of, But perhaps these questions are best left unanswered, for those that have ventured out to find the real truth have never been heard from again….

The Mewshroom also are great friends with their best buddy the Cockblock Dolls!

Two dorks lost in a sea of geeks…

Wow, what a break! Sorry for the extreme lack of post the last few days (weeks) but last Sunday we finished San Diego Comic Con 2016! Jason and I have been attending Comic-Con since 1995, and if my math is right (probably isn’t) then that is twenty one years of creative-geeky goodness packedIMG_0487 into a four day event. Usually right before our birthdays too!

Though will be Moocasting about this years con on the next episode (#119), I wanted to get some of our images online now. This year we met a lot of talented artist, performers, and cosplayers. I’ll be working hard to arrange interviews with as many as possible, but we also ran into a bunch of past Moocast interviewees like Nicole Brune, Josh Henaman, and Katrina Kuntsmann. All of whom had new art and comics out on their tables!

This last years con was incredibly inspiring, and I think we’re going to do it folks! Jason and I have been hitting the local smaller cons, but this next year I think we’re going to apply for artist alley and pro badges!IMG_3307_copy_t670 Yeah, we probably won’t get them, but we’re gonna try! Anyways, check out the images below, I’ll be adding these to our gallery pages as well.

Also, a special shout out goes to friend of the site Dean LeCrone who’s Dr. Peepers costume won Syfy’s 2016 Weirdly Awesome Cosplay! We’re going to have Dean on the podcast very soon to tell us the whole story, but check out the youtube video below too!

***note: these are just the images I took from my iPhone. Jason was kind of our un-official photographer, and we’re still putting together all of his images, which will appear with the next Moocast! Also, Jason hurry up and get me the damn pictures! Lazy.

Cheers!

Inspired by mythology, each 52 card deck comes in a custom foil box and there are three different sets to choose from: Alpha, Omega, and Apeiron!
