Atomic Moo News

…and other stuff too

Hello again, El Moochadores! It’s been well over a month since I last posted to the Moo, so I wanted to get on and do some blogging. I don’t really have anything geek creative to post about today (maybe tonight), but some of the crazy in my life has calmed down a little so I’ll start posting really cool stuff again as often as I can. Also, I’ve been keeping up with Atomic Tails as best as I can (which isn’t much), so I should have a new web comic coming out soon. Also, I’ve kind of got back into collecting comics again. I’ve been spending a lot of time at work stuck in a car. So, I’m probably going to start comic book reviews, just to learn what makes a good comic for me. Anyways, I’ll try and get a proper post on later tonight. Until then check out bears waving at people.

Cheers!

Atomic Moo in 2018!

Happy new 2018, El Moochadores! As we’re just beginning this new year, I wanted to get on here an thank everyone who visited our sites, or bought an illustration from us online, or at a con last year. Though Atomic Moo is mostly a learning experience for us, we appreciate any support we can get. Last year, was a chance for us to fix a lot of personal problems, and I feel like we’re a little bit better prepared to continue our goal of becoming professional artists and creators. This year we are going to continue to post/blog about all the great independent work we encounter in the world of comics, cosplay, and fan film/music, but we’re also going to focus a lot on improving our skills, and finishing projects. It’s always bugged me that we couldn’t get the Atomic Moo comic together, and a goal (resolution) this year is to get the remaining pages illustrated and have an official Atomic Moo comic! Which as I write this is going to be really tough, because I also want to keep up with my own webcomic (Atomic Tails), and Chud and I have a few print projects planned (almost finished too!) for this year. So, for the blog side of the Moo, look forward to a lot of drawing and painting tutorials, because I’ll be using those to get the comic going!

I also want to keep the “geek creative” side of Atomic Moo alive. It was by doing the “Moocast” and interviewing creatives that got us into making our own stuff, and since stopping the Moocast in 2016 I feel like we’ve drifted away from that inspiration which has hurt us. So, this next year I would also like to kick off the Moocast again and do regular post about the cool indie stuff we encounter at cons and online. Also, also, if you’re a creator and want us to share your project with our tiny (wee, miniscule even!) visitors, please let us know! Sourcing content is a huge time sink and I’m always in need of content, and it’s just cool to see fresh ideas outside the norm. Which is very much where we reside. Way outside the norm…

2017 was a pretty good year for us, and I have a feeling that 2018 is going to be even better.

Cheers!

How to fill a Sketchbook

Artist H.C. Brown Explains How Not To Be Afraid of Your Sketchbook

Hello again El Moochadores! I’ve always had this weird problem with showing my sketchbooks to other people. Especially artists. It’s because most of my sketches are either thumbnails for later projects, half-assed drawing attempts and practices, or lots of naked women. So, I’ve always had this fear that anyone one who sees my sketch book will think I’m a pervert (they’d be right) or a schizophrenic. Or even a perverted schizophrenic. I’ve also had this problem with, “what to draw,” and “how do I make my sketchbook look perfect.” Which, in my case is a justifiable concern since my own twin brother’s (aka: The Chud of Atomic Moo) sketchbooks are minor works of art that deserve their own gallery displays.

So that is why I’m posting this video from artist/illustrator H.C. Brown who does a fantastic job of “breaking the fear” of your own sketchbook. In the video below, Brown goes through a lot of stuff artist, and cartoonist, can do to fill their sketchbook and put aside the fear of ruining a blank page. I really like the idea of taping or gluing other elements into a sketchbook. Personally, I do this with cigar bands and bottle labels. I love how they look and a lot of my sketchbooks have collections of cigar bands taped inside. Okay, so I probably smoke too much and might be too obsessed with drawing naked women.

Also, go check out Brown’s comic work at endallgraphics.com. Which, I’ll probably should just do a Moo post about all on its own. Really cools stuff. Anyways, here’s the vid!

Cheers!

Larry Hama Action Figure

Kickstarter from Fresh Monkey Fiction and REMCO

Okay, I didn’t really know who Larry Hama is until Numbers (aka: Helix Mary Sue) from Ages 25 and Up explained. However, I still think this is a good idea for a Kickstarter and worth a shout out here on the Moo. In brief: Larry Hama is a comic writer and illustrator who worked on stuff like the G.I. Joe of the 1980’s and Wolverine. I didn’t realize it, but I even have some of the old comics Hama worked on. Keen. So, yeah. Give the guy an action figure.

Brought to us by Freshmonkeyfiction.com and REMCO, this figure (when made) will be 4” high sculpted by Nick Whitmore and original art by Adam Riches. As of this post the KS has met its funding goals, but there’s still 15 days left to contribute and collect some special rewards. Anyways, click the link above for more information about the project.

Go Joe.

Now Is The Time, Piper Perish

New Song from the Doubleclicks!

Hello again, El Moochadores. Yeah, ‘been awhile since our last post, but I’ve been really “under the weather.” However, I’m feeling much better today and The Doubleclicks have a new song out. So, I’m going to try and get back into my routine while you (our loyal cult of super bovine buffs) check out their new tune. The song is called “Now Is The Time, and is the latest song from their “You Should Write A Song About That” project,. This song also appears on their soon to be Love Problems album, which has a Kickstarter right now. Actually, a very successful KS, with 10 days (as of this post) left to contribute and cash in on some cool contributor awards to boot!

Check out Now is the Time below, while I go and (try) to remember where I left my pants. I’ve been in sweatpants the last week, and I’m kind of hating giving ’em up.

Enjoy.

Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell

I may have posted about Kurzgesagt, in a Nutshell videos in the past, but the last couple of days Chudd and I have been working on ideas for new button art (Murray Brothers Creative), and while sourcing reference material I came across these videos. Not only are the videos highly informative, covering everything from human evolution to rocket science, but they’re also produced using (what I feel) is a great style. I love how they translate complex subject matter into an understandable narrative demonstrated brilliantly with simple shapes and animation. The Kurzgesagt youtube page describes them selves as “Videos explaining things with optimistic nihilism. We are a small team who want to make science look beautiful. Because it is beautiful.” Groovy.

They say they’re trying to produce new videos every month and I’ve posted a couple of samples below. Go check ’em out on twitter, but you can also help support the group by contributing on their Patreon.

Enjoy!
