STANDSTILL #1 Kickstarter!

A Sci-fi Survival Horror Comic Book!

Hey El Moochadores, I just wanted to take a moment to give a shout out to a pretty cool looking Kickstater from one of my favorite English (at least I think he’s English… actually I’ve never met him. For all I know he could be a very creative house plant from Akron Ohio. But he sounds English!) artists. Written by Justin Gray and illustrated by Jimmy Bruxton, Standstill #1 is the story of a “global pandemic where 90% of the human race suffers from a mysterious paralysis.” So, they’re not dead…yet?

Anyways, from some of the samples posted on the KS page the art and story telling look solid. In fact, the project has already hit all of its funding as of this post. Coolness. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t still contribute and reap some cool rewards for pitching in.

Check out some of the sample pages below along with the KS promo video. Also, click the Stand Still Kickstarter link above to learn more about the story, its creators, and contributor awards.

Cheers!

Misplaced: The Collected Edition

New Kickstarter for a four issue collected volume from Source Point Press

Hello again El Moochadores! Been awhile right? Well, we’re back and this time we got a Kickstarter campaign to share! Sooo… Let’s go!

Currently on Kickstarter is a new(-ish) campaign for a pretty cool indie comic; The Misplaced: The Collected Edition. Written and Illustrated by Chris Callahan, and published by Source Point Press, Misplaced is a collection of four issues about a dark supernatural tale of love and desperation in the aftermath of a horrific tragedy. Here’s a proper synopsis:

A young man pushes through the afterlife searching for the soul of his lost bride. But to find the missing, one spirit must return to the land of the living and uncover the truth of immortality.

From what I’ve seen, this comic looks pretty cool. Callahan has an almost “Sandman” like art style and I’ve always dug the other world adventures. Maybe it’s all the Lovecraft reading. Anyways… As of this post the kickstarter has met its goal and there are 19 days left to contribute. Also, they have some pretty cool stretch goals. If the campaign earns $4,500.00 then every single backer will receive a FREE digital copy of our newest release FALLSTREAK. A whole graphic novel! If the campaign hits $5,500.00 then the Misplaced will be produced as a hardcover volume at now extra cost to the backers. El Moochadores interested in contributing can hit the KS link above to read more about the rewards which also include digital copies and original art.

I’ve posted the Kickstarter promo video below, along with the sample pages provided on the KS page. For more information you can also check out the Misplaced page on the Source Point Press website.

Cheers!

Atlantis: The Last Survivor: Episode 1

Hello El Moochadores! I’ve been trying to get this post written for the last couple of days now, but life keeps getting in the way. Anyways…

I recently finished reading Arin Leviti’s new indie comic Atlantis: The last Survivor, and its pretty damn good. Featuring illustrations by Giuseppe Cafaro and colors by Federico Blee, this fantasy story takes readers to the magic filled Atlantis and follows the adventure of lovers Agathon and Phile. Here’s the proper synopsis:

Agathon, the son of a member of the resistance, is kidnapped and taken to the capital where he discovers that everything his parents had taught him is true. His only hope rests on the mysterious demigoddess Phile and Temacles, a member of the resistance who has infiltrated the oligarchy.

Agathon and Phile, united by their love and the hope for a new beginning, fight a battle against time to restore the Flux, overthrow the High Priestess and save Atlantis from itself.

As far as independent works go this is definitively top tier. Carfaro and Blee’s talent as illustrators is on full display here and they do a great job of bring Leviti’s fantasy story to life. I really enjoyed this book. So much so, that I even went back (after getting a review copy) and paid for it just to make sure I do my part to keep the story going. Okay, true the books a bargain. You can get a digital copy of issue #1 on Comixology for only $0.99, but I’m broke right now! $1.00 is actually huge for me! It’s all relative folks. So, yeah, absolutely go pick up a copy of Atlantis: Last Survivor and have something cool to read over this nice holiday break. Well, nice for others. I gotta go back to work. damn.

Check out a few preview pages of Atlantis: Last Survivor below, but don’t forget to hit the link above and support independent comics!

New Short Comic from Kyle Roberts!

Okay El Moochadores, here’s a great short comic from the creator of the Dark Hours, Kyle Roberts. The comic is called PARENT/GUARDIAN and is a part of From Beyond stories which have a great Twilight Zone, or Outer Limits vibe to them. I would say Heavy Metal, but so far no naked chicks. damn. This short story takes readers to the far end of our solar systems and has all the stuff we love in sci-fi: Giant robots and space battles! Roberts wrote, inked, and lettered the comic along with pencils by Rafael Romeo Magat, and colors by Ilaria Fella. I posted the first three pages below as a preview, but if you click the link above and subscribe to the email list, you’ll be able to see the comic for free! Good stuff. Anyways, check it out and remember to support indie comics and creators!

Cheers!

The Foreigner, Volume 1 – Graphic Novel

Cover

New Kickstarter for a Cool Comic!

Kaz, a socially awkward Brooklynite, is cast into an alternate world and must confront battling kings to save his wife and return home.

Okay El Moochadores, time to turn our collective attentions to this great looking Kickstarter for a new indie comic called The Foreigner, Volume One. Written and illustrated by published author, Kensuke Okabayashi, this futuristic fantasy takes an normal guy (Kaz) into an alternate world chuck full of killer robots,1778fbc00dd81659b521e28d8927ae2e_original zombies, and warring royals! Sounds pretty cool, right? Check out the synopsis below:

A once peaceful but now war-torn world, Ravenika is an alternate universe ripped apart by three brother kings battling for each other’s land, riches, and power. In an attempt to save his abducted wife, Kaz, a socially dysfunctional Brooklynite, is mysteriously transported to this desolate and dangerous world where he must restore peace among these familial foes if he ever hopes to return home.

This was a great read! I received a digital version of issue #1, along with a press package (*press packages are awesome and I wish more indie comic artists would put them together when trying to promote their work*), and I enjoyed the story along with Okabayashi’s talented art style. It’s easy to see all of Okabayashi’s professional talent in full swing here and I was kind of surprised to read that this was his first Kickstarter. Though definitely not a Manga, the comic does carry some of that vibe – especially when the killer robots show up. There were a lot of questions with the first issue (like why the abducted wife of an office worker), but I trust that Okabayashi will reveal all as future issues are produced.

I’ve posted a few sample pages below, but remember, the comic book is looking for funding. So go check out the Kickstarter page and give it some support. You can also learn about rewards for contributing there, one of which looks like a 3D custom model.

Keen!

JAND

JAND

Just Another Nigerian Drama

An Original Webcomic by Modé

Good evening El Moochadores! At Atomic Moo, independent, and web, comics are some of the best things in the world, and we love it when we’re introduced to someone’s new project. So, in true indie spirit check out JAND, an original webcomic, updating twice weekly, that focuses on the lives of Nigerian university students living in the United Kingdom. Produced by professional illustrator, writer, and Jeweler, Modé (by the way, I actually learned how to type that accent mark, which I’m kind of proud of…) with coloring and backgrounds (strips 50 +) by concept artist Segun Samson. The strip follows the lives of eight students and is a “slice of life” comic dealing with work and relationships. Some comics do feature explicit content (mostly cussing), but it’s also gives a look at a culture many of us here in the states wouldn’t otherwise encounter. Oh, and “Jand” is also a slang term in Nigerian pidgin English which means “England.” You see the stuff you learn when visiting Atomic Moo. Keen. Anyways, Check out a few sample comics below, but you can follow the entire series of strips at the JAND website.

Enjoy!

Rum Row

RR_Cover

New Comic from Andrew Maxwell

Good evening El Moochadores. Right now there is a Kickstarter for a great looking new comic, Rum Row. this high flying adventure is written by Andrew Maxwell and illustrated by Michele Bandini. The comic is a prohibition era tale that “mixes Jules Verne and The Untouchables.” So it’s chuck full of airplanes, airships, and dirigibles. Dirigibles! Here’s the story:

To avoid dry laws, rumrunners and patrons alike have taken to the sky. Hot air balloons and dirigibles now serve as speakeasies and black markets for alcohol. The press has coined these flying bars above New York “Rum Row”. Despite operating outside the law, Rum Row has become a worldwide tourist attraction.8f99f400b7a402cfcf720bb90ea46526_large Faced with growing concern over the lawlessness of its airspace, the city has created a special aerial vice squad to monitor and crack down on the sale of alcohol. One ship in particular has been a thorn in the city’s side since the beginning: The Duchess, New York’s premier flying speakeasy. In this story, we’ll follow the NYPD’s attempt to take down the Duchess once and for all, through the eyes of one of its passengers, Jack Tinson. All the while, Jack’s own allegiances and motivations remain in question…

So far their kickstarter has met its goal (way to go!), but they have a bunch of great rewards for everyone who can still contribute. Rewards include posters, comics, t-shirts, and more. Check out the the Kickstarter for more information. I’ve posted a few sample images below along with the kickstarter video.

Enjoy!

photo-main

Good Morning El Moochadores! There is a new Kickstarter for a giant size annual of Legends of Log! Yes, an ax wielding, forest dwelling, giant piece of angry wood. Produced by D.L. Suharski and Paperback Jack Books, Legends of Log is a unique spin on the “Warrior Hero” tale set in a magical dark ages where a giant… log (yup… Log) protects the North Woods. Currently the Kickstarter is seeking funding to publish the first giant annual of the Log series. Check out the details:

LogIf you like giant monsters and swords and sorcery, then you just might like a giant size log swinging around a giant size ax. Welcome to the Legends of Log 1st giant size 2015 annual. Featuring 10 amazing stories and 7 talented artists who present to you some fantastic adventures of the mighty ax wielding wooden giant, known as LOG! Now some of you may be saying to yourself… “A log – with an ax? You gotta be kidding?” Or you may be saying… “A log – with an ax? A-w-e-s-o-m-e!” I hope you’re going with the latter. Because I think you’ll going to enjoy this 56 page giant size comic book of the Legends of Log. Plus the backers of this Kickstarter will be the first of few who will receive the 2015 annual in 2014… largeLOLissue1cover
(cont.) I started Legends of Log in 2012 by coming up with the idea from a comic strip I was drawing that just happened to include a humorous talking log. I took this character and imagined him as a giant warrior. Fighting monsters and sorcery back in the days of medieval times as he carried an ax around and yelled “TIMBERRRRRR!” Out of this idea came some stories. But I needed help to get these stories off the ground and into a comic book. And since I only draw the silly humorous characters, I needed this new Log character to be drawn more realistic than I could ever draw him, So I had to enlist some illustrators. And that I did. There are seven terrific artists that have made the Legends of Log stories come to life and are listed below. I won’t bother going through their credits because each one of them is a credit to their own work. And as you saw from the video above. It’s pretty amazing artwork.

Since all of the art work is already completed, Paperback Jack books just needs the resources to finish printing the annual.Log_Shirt Check out the Kickstarter for more information on the comic and also the cool rewards which includes the book, digital downloads, posters, and t-shirts! I’ve included the video for the kickstarter below along with a trailer for Legends of Log found on the main website. Go check it all out and help this get this great indie comic made.

Enjoy!
